Stafford partnered with Escambia County School District and Double Click Democracy, an online election service supported by the Lou Frey Institute at UCF and Kids Voting USA, in offering Escambia County students the opportunity to vote in a mock Presidential election. More than 10,000 students in multiple grade levels from various schools around the county participated in the online election and cast their ballot in two contests: President and Vice President, and United State Senator.

New Records Exemption for Military Personnel

Recently, Governor Scott signed into law HB 185, which creates a public records exemption for the identification and location information of current or former active duty service members of the United States (U.S.) Armed Forces, their reserve components, or the National Guard who served after September 11, 2001. The exemption also includes their spouses and dependents. Individuals requesting this exemption for their voter registration information must submit a request form to the Supervisor of Elections. Winter Weather Office Closing - January 28 & 29

The Escambia County Emergency Operations Center will be participating in National Weather Service conference call at 5pm today (January 27) and will issue an updated weather statement. A local state of emergency is scheduled to begin at 12 a.m. Tuesday, January 28 due to the anticipated weather conditions.

Following the course of action by Escambia County, the department of Public Safety and other constitutional offices, the Escambia County Supervisor of Elections Office will also be closed on Tuesday, January 28 and Wednesday, January 29. Regular office hours will resume on Thursday, January 30.

Senate Redistricting Continues

Following a ruling from the Florida Supreme Court issued on Friday, March 9, the Florida legislature will reconvene in a special session beginning Wednesday, March 14 to adjust the Senate redistricting plan passed by legislature earlier this year. 2010 FSASE Scholarship Recipient

Florida State University student Matthew Rizzo was recently awarded the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections (FSASE) Joe Oldmixon Scholarship. Mr. Rizzo, an Escambia County resident, is a junior majoring in business management.

Each year the FSASE awards three (3) scholarships to eligible students throughout Florida. The scholarships are available to juniors or seniors attending an accredited Florida university or college majoring in political science, public or business administration or journalism/mass communications.

October 26, 2009 is the registration deadline for the Pensacola City Charter Referendum. Florida law mandates that registration books close 29 days before an election. New registrations must be completed on or before Monday, October 26th in order for them to be effective for the November mail ballot referendum.
